A Widow's Lament

by Phyllis Roe, April 13, 1993

Speak to me, Michael, of love and death.
Does love survive the grave?
Does longing, yearning, seeking
reach back to me
from the Other Shore,
or does need fade
with quieted breath?

Sing to me, Michael, the Arch-angel's song.
Comfort me with the melodies of eternity.
Life me from the emptiness of missing you
with the company of heaven's voices.
Lead me to you
with a celestial chant.

Dance for me, Michael, the steps
of bondage broken.
Teach me the Spirit's joyous jig.
Let me waltz with you
in God's arms.

Michael, where are you?
