The pandemic-forced postponement of General Conference has left United Methodist financial leaders with big questions about the denomination’s budget.
The General Council on Finance and Administration board spent much of a March 27 teleconference grappling with how to act within the bounds of church rules while recognizing the new economic realities caused by COVID-19.

With a possible denominational split on the horizon, the task of preparing The United Methodist Church’s budget for the next four years comes with far more uncertainty than usual.
During a Feb. 21 online meeting, the General Council on Finance and Administration board discussed some of the what if’s that could affect the church’s financial future.
Those include the impact of the proposed Protocol of Reconciliation & Grace through Separation and other possible splits over how accepting to be of homosexuality.

The Rev. Adam Hamilton, senior pastor of the multi-site, mega-membership United Methodis Church of the Resurrection based in Leawood, Kansas, endorsed the #ResistHarm movement in a year-end email sent to participants of the 2019 Leadership Institute.
In addition to recommending #ResistHarm as a resource for congregations in the run-up to the 2020 General Conference in May, Rev. Hamilton responded to frequent requests for updates on The United Methodist Church’s struggle over LGBTQ+ acceptance and potential schism. He cited the following:
