Welcome to my personal web site!

Here you will find short summaries of my skills with some background on how they were developed. My Curriculum Vitae highlights my life experience and accomplishments. A narrative on my varied careers and experience will lend some interest and explanation of how some of those came to be. I retired in May 2010, and so am in a new chapter of my life, and am open to paid part-time temporary work which uses my skills and background.

I am active with several volunteer organizations: Amateur Radio Emergency Service, Reconciling Ministries Network, and Western Methodist Justice Movement, as well as my church, Arvada United Methodist Church and a disaster response committee of the Mountain Sky Area of The United Methodist Church. I maintain several non-profit web sites.

Of course, any life is a combination of the professional and the personal and this site gives insight into both. But the site also collects and shares significant writings which may be helpful and useful to you, the reader. Some of the writings were done for newspapers I've worked with. Depending on your interests, explore, read, reflect, and consider. The menus at the left provide entry points to the various parts of the site.

Ben Roe in Scooter with AntennaI am a fan of the Gnu/Linux operating system, and I am mobile in a 3-wheel scooter.

The penguin named Tux is the mascot of the Linux kernel (the core of the Linux/Gnu operating system). Tux was first created by Larry Ewing using The GIMP, a free and open source image-editing program.

I modified the original image of Tux on a hot motorcycle so that it had a 3rd wheel. I'm also a ham radio operator, so I added the antenna with a flag on it, similar to my real life scooter (sometimes the orange flag hasĀ  been triangular).
